
Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson has joined the club in sending a farewell message to John Heitinga as he takes over as the new manager of Ajax.
Heitinga, 41, joined Liverpool’s backroom staff last summer as part of Arne Slott’s new backroom staff. And played a key role in the Dutchman’s success in the club’s first season.

The club have responded to Heitinga’s departure with an official statement. Which read: “Liverpool FC can confirm that John Heitinga will leave the Club to take up a role as head coach of Ajax.
“The 41-year-old left the Reds after a season as assistant coach at Arne Slot. And is now head coach of his former hometown club Ajax. ”
John leaves us with a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the part. He played in our 2024-25 Premier League title triumph.”
Andy Robertson also sent Heitinga a farewell message and wished him well in his new role.
The Scottish full-back shared a photo of himself and Heitinga celebrating together. At the club’s parade last week, with the caption: “This season wouldn’t have been possible without you! Good luck legend.”
