Former Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has admitted his disappointment with Juventus. Handling of the situation was a key reason he decided to give up his gloves.
Szczesny officially announced his retirement from professional football in August after his contract with Juventus expired at the end of June. A decision that came as quite a surprise given the young age of 34 for a goalkeeper.
The former Poland goalkeeper understood the plan to sign Michele Di Gregorio but thought he would sign a new contract for another season. Which would be his last before hanging up his gloves. But things did not go as planned.
“These seven seasons are not easy challenges. It’s great when you have an adventure in life and you do well. I’ve still want to help the team this year, but it’s not up to me”. Cech replied to Luca Toselli’s YouTube question.
“I never thought I wouldn’t be part of the club’s plans. I’m never imagined it like that.”
“I had a very open conversation with Giuntoli at the UFABET beginning of last season. When we were expected to discuss a new contract. We sat in a room and talked for three minutes. I told him I would retire at the end of the 2024-25 season.
“Then I started reading that the club was in talks with Di Gregorio,”
“I respect Di Gregorio and I guess it will be Mattia Perin who wants to leave and he (Di Gregorio) will come in as second choice (behind me),” Szczesny said.
